There are millions of women worldwide who suffer this condition. It is estimated that about 90% of women over 20 years old have “cellulite” in their hips and thighs.

Cellulite is a condition characterized by the so-called “orange-peel” and in severe cases of multiple depressions, due to the accumulation of fat between fibrous septa sub-dermal level. This pathology is related with genetic factors, being more common in the white race, is also associated with sedentary life and excessive consumption of food high in empty calories and saturated fat typical of modern life, delicious to the taste but low in nutrients and antioxidants (plenty protective substances in foods and vegetables), giving rise to the accumulation of fat and fibrous septa formation of sub-dermal layers, being hormonally directed to women’s hips and thighs, causing the dreaded “cellulite”.

Basics for prevention and treatment of cellulite is to live a healthy lifestyle with a balanced diet as natural as possible, accompanied by daily exercise and adequate water consumption.

Regarding to food, avoid animal fats and fried foods, preferring poly-unsaturated oils, rich in omega 3. Avoid mayonnaise and be measured with salt and condiment use. Prefer seasoning with lemon and herbs (coriander, thyme, oregano, basil, rosemary). Do not abuse white bread consumption and prefer whole wheat bread.

A great variety of treatments have been tried without getting the solution to “cellulite” problem. Many “magic” creams are misleading and expensive. Massages, endermology sessions, mesotherapy, acupressure, body wraps, detoxification are all targeted therapies in cellulite treatment, which may temporarily improve the appearance of skin by dehidrating located tissues, but without solving the problem definitively. That is why it has been argued that “there is no cure for cellulite”.

In Cali, Colombia, a new surgical technique has been developed for the effective “cellulite” treatment getting real solutions. This treatment is REFINING (goodbye cellulite), the latest technique in “cellulite” treatment and the only one that can guarantee real elimination of skin irregularities caused by “cellulite” that affects specially women’s hips and thighs.

This procedure is ambulatory with local anesthesia and leaves no scars because we use a very thin spatula-cannula.

Three surgical steps are required:

  1. Micro liposuction where excess fat is located.
  2. Rupture of fibrous walls causing depressions and “orange peel”.
  3. Micro fat grafting at level of depression.

After surgery, patients use compression stockings in addition to special massages accompanied by infrared rays to accelerate improvement.

This procedure, followed by a healthy diet and regular exercise guarantees a final result.

Note: It is convenient to clarify that medically cellulite is known as the skin inflammation caused by bacteria, characterized by heat, pain, redness and swelling in any area of the body (legs, face, arms…) and is treated with antibiotics, analgesics and anti-inflammatory. However the average person understands and uses the term “cellulite” to refer to the so called “orange peel”, which refers to this article.
